The Corkscrew Regional Mitigation Bank (CRMB) is a large-scale, regional wetland mitigation bank consisting of approximately 635 acres and owned by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). The bank is implemented and managed by The Wetlandsbank Company LLC (TWC), a nationally recognized mitigation banking firm with extensive experience in the planning, restoration, and long-term management of mitigation banks throughout Florida.

Mitigation Bank Overview

Total Site Area: 635 acres

Primary Restoration and Enhancement Components:

  • Restoration of over 390 acres of drained pastureland to a native hydric pine system matrix
  • Enhancement of approximately 240 acres of existing native wetlands and uplands
  • Hydrological improvements to restore sustainable site hydrology
  • Exotic and invasive vegetation removal and control
  • Prescribed burning to maintain restored habitats

Types of Credits & Service Area

The Corkscrew Regional Mitigation Bank provides freshwater forested and herbaceous wetlands mitigation credits. Credits may be used to offset permitted impacts to wetlands within portions of Lee, Hendry, and Collier Counties, as defined in the approved Mitigation Service Area (MSA).

The bank is not approved to provide mitigation for marine, estuarine, barrier island, coastal island habitat impacts, or for riverine impacts associated with the Caloosahatchee River where they may occur within the service area.

Project Implementation & Management

Restoration and project management activities include on-site surface water management, invasive exotic species removal, seeding and planting of native vegetation, prescribed burning, GPS data collection, contracting and supervision of subcontractors, and ongoing ecological monitoring. All restoration practices were implemented to optimize ecological lift and long-term sustainability of wetland and surface water resources.

Hydrological restoration of the site has been designed to be sustainable with proper long-term management, ensuring continued ecological function and resilience.
