Panther Island Mitigation Bank (Panther Island) is one of the premier large-scale wetland restoration projects in Southwest Florida. The mitigation bank encompasses approximately 4,471 acres and delivers substantial regional ecological benefits through comprehensive wetland restoration, enhancement, preservation, and perpetual management activities.
The fully restored Panther Island lands are preserved in perpetuity through a conservation easement and a long-term stewardship trust fund. Long-term stewardship is managed by the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, with ownership retained by The National Audubon Society.
Panther Island is located contiguous with portions of the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (CREW) and South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Save Our Rivers (SOR) lands. The project significantly enhances freshwater wetland systems and wildlife habitat connectivity throughout the CREW landscape.
